ISL’s philosophy maintains that it is in and through your own interior journey that you are prepared for service – whether as a spiritual director, professional, friend, parent, spouse, or leader .

Grounded in this philosophy and vision, the ISL approach consists of two areas of focus, Spirituality for Self (Personal Development) and Spirituality for Service (Professional Development). While the components within each of these areas have traditionally been integrated into a nine-month, full-time intensive program, other options have been developed in recent years to accommodate the scheduling restrictions of many who are eager to share the ISL experience, but unable to do so on a full-time basis.

Whatever the schedule or format, our unique, experiential adult education model provides immediate opportunities for you to experience, apply and share what you learn in an environment of trust, acceptance and support. It enables you to absorb and integrate the concepts and insights taught for use in all aspects of your life.

Select the tools and schedule that best suits your needs!

June 9 - 10, 2007
Spiritual Direction in an Energetic World
From a contemplative point of view we know that every encounter with another is sacred time. In each encounter we engage one another within a field of energy that is dynamic and relational. As spiritual directors, supervisors and counselors, we are in the flow of this energy we know as Spirit each time we listen to a directee or client. This is a reflective workshop for those who offer forms of accompaniment and are interested in exploring a dimension of spiritual direction that is often unrecognized although it seems to be known intuitively.

We will consider:
• the thinking of Ken Wilber and Robert Kegan regarding the energetic dimension in which we live
• the contemplative experience of accompanying another individual
• our attunement to the underlying energies of such fields

The Transformative Power of Dreams
Dreams are a unique and powerful way of experiencing the movement of God in our lives. They are a source of insight as we seek to understand ourselves and others. They also offer us guidance as we deal with everyday struggles and decisions. Even dreams which seem confusing or frightening often contain within them a message which invites us to wholeness and healing. During this workshop we will explore the place of dreams in relation to the spiritual journey.
We will also experience some practical ways of working with our dreams in order to discover the messages contained within the dream symbols.

June 16, 2007
A Taste of Focusing
In the 1960s at the University of Chicago, Eugene Gendlin, Ph.D. began to describe a natural process of listening to the wisdom of the body in a gentle, caring way. The process he described is called Focusing and uses bodily awareness to access the wisdom that is inside each person. Focusing is a holistic process that unites body, mind and spirit and invites people to live in an integrated fashion. Participants in this workshop will learn the process of focusing; will be led individually and in group settings through the focusing process; and will be involved in lectures and discussion about how this process can help a person to become better integrated within themselves and with others. This workshop is for those beginning focusing as well as for those who desire further updating.
Presenter: Ida Regina Oliver, M.Div.,LCPC, BCC
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Using the Art Making Process in Spiritual Direction
In this one day workshop, participants will create their own authentic piece of artwork using simple materials. We will then process the experience and emotions that emerged while in the act of creation. We will do this in small groups. There will also be time to share experiences with the entire group for those who choose to do so. There will be time to journal about the process. No previous art experience is required. This workshop will be about process, not product.

Art of Supervision
This workshop is intended for experienced spiritual directors who are interested in training in supervision. Spirituality of Transition
Times of transition such as changing careers or relationships, the birth of a child, empty-nesting, aging or the loss of a loved one carry us into threshhold moments that hold varying degrees of joy, fear, hope and sorrow. These moments are challenging and often difficult places to be. Yet they can be the central place of transformation, creativity and rebirth. In this workshop, story, personal reflection, group sharing and creative expression will offer the opportunity to recognize this sacred place. Through the creation of rituals, you will find ways to bless the closing and opening of doors in your life and honor the transformational space in-between.
Presenters: Ann Schreckenberger MA Candidate
and Margaret Burk
Time: 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Enneamotion
Enneamotion offers an integrated approach to experiencing the body, mind and spirit connection through exploring how our bodies carry our personalities. This experiential workshop will provide guidance for gaining deeper insight into personal behavior and feelings through correlating body movement with the emotions and thinking of each enneagram space. Working knowledge of the Enneagram is required.
Presenters: Darla Temple, MEd, and Mary Schemper Denny, RN
Time: 4:00 - 6:00PM Monday - Thursday
Tuition: $120

June 22 - 23, 2007
Drum Making
Our workshop opens on Friday evening with a ritual honoring the ancient wisdom of indigenous people. Materials used in the drum making are honored and blessed. Drum makers decide upon a name and choose symbols for their drums which are wood-burned into the drum’s rim. The rims are then stained and dried and mallets are made. All materials are included, but participants are invited to bring their own stick for a mallet (1/2 - 1” in diameter; about 15” long) and feathers for decorating if desired. The drum face and the lacings are soaked overnight. On Saturday the drums are assembled. This is a long and very physical process, but one that is richly rewarding. The workshop concludes with a ritual blessing of the drums.
Presenter: Lynn Fleming, MEd
Time: Friday evening: 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Tuition: $200 ($150 plus $50 materials fee)
