ISL offers its program components through several formats. WEEKDAY PROGRAM. This is the most fully integrated of ISL's programs. It meets Monday-Friday from mid-September through early June. Participants wishing to attend part-time may complete this weekday program in two to three years, attending selected components one or two days per week. WEEKEND PROGRAM meets one weekend per month, September through May, on a two-year cycle (18 weekends). SPECIAL COURSES - some individual components or courses may be taken through special arrangement with the Programs Director. SUMMER INSTITUTE - Week-long workshops in June for spiritual directors and others interested in developing new skills in approaching the interior life. STAFF ISL's dynamic, internationally known staff has a strong commitment to the process of spiritual growth and professional preparation for life and mission. Staff members' creativity and expertise, as well as their mutual concern for one another and for each program participant, are hallmarks of ISL. LOCATION ISL is located in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, known for its academic institutions, seminaries and cultural opportunities. Excellent libraries, theaters and restaurants as well as the beautiful Lake Michigan shore are within easy walking distance. Chicago is famous for its soaring architecture, beautiful lakefront parks and vistas; fine orchestra, opera, theater, arts and museums; and intriguing ethnic neighborhoods. Convenient public transportation reaches downtown Chicago in thirty minutes and makes the rest of the city readily accessible. HOUSING The Institute owns two adjoining apartment buildings in which participants may live. Two to four participants share a furnished apartment. Each participant has a private bedroom, while sharing a common living/dining room and kitchen. Participants can gather as a group in a common area. Participants share cooking duties, as well as the cost of food, utilities and telephone. | ||||
