ISL's practicum work develops the participant as a skilled professional who can help others to raise their experience to a level of consciousness that can be articulated and integrated into ones life and work. Participants learn to listen and observe with both head and heart, to make sound judgments in an empathetic way and offer them in a manner that invites others to discern interior movements. This experiential learning brings a deep level of reverence to ministry and leadership. Participants learn through the actual experience of companioning another with the support of both individual and peer supervision and the use of audio and video taping. Training draws on the insights of contemporary developmental and depth psychologies, helping participants come to know the textures and terrains of human experience in the spiritual journey, the dynamics of personal transformation, and their own dynamics as they companion another. Core Components QUADRADS provide an opportunity to experience an on-going spiritual direction relationship with another member of the program. This supervised practicum, using video taped sessions, is an opportunity to concretize skills and knowledge. PROFESSIONAL GROUP helps develop a reverent, informed and disciplined approach to spiritual companioning in ministry through the use of presentations and staff/peer supervision. INDIVIDUAL SUPERVISION provides a reflective opportunity to integrate feedback from quadrads, professional group and one's own self-observation in ministry. The supervisor is a personal and professional consultant who aids participants in acquiring and integrating the art and skill needed for spiritual leadership. FOCUSING uses bodily awareness to access the wisdom that is inside each person. Focusing is a holistic process that unites body, mind and spirit and invites people to live in an integrated fashion. Participants learn the process of focusing and are involved in lectures and discussion about how this process can help a person to become better integrated within themselves and with others. ACTIVE IMAGINATION involves practical ways to accompany others as they address significant personal images and symbols. The imagination is a faculty of the psyche that helps one access the interior world of image, myth and symbol. This is the language of the soul, which offers healing and wholeness. | ||||
