|     ISL's approach to personal spiritual development centers on several core components. These components focus on experiential learning rather than on traditional academic methods. ISL's adult learning model deeply respects the individuality and life experience each person brings to her or his program participation. Core Components PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION FOR MISSION explores the ongoing process leading to radical transformation. The formation of the self is presented through the lens provided by developmental theorist Robert Kegan, and the transformation of the self is studied through the works of several classic and contemporary Christian writers. Paradigms of transformation including Ignatius Loyola, Theresa of Avila, liberation theology, and eco-feminist spirituality also are studied. PATHS AND PRACTICES The goal of this course is to assist participants to grow in self-knowledge and spiritual consciousness, and to foster this awareness in everyday life. Participants examine how the archetypal spiritual paths of the healer, leader, visionary and teacher are reflected in their own lives. Themes from "Personal Transformation for Mission" and other components of the ISL training program serve as the basis for many of the activities in this course. Each class consists of an experiential process and time for reflection and sharing. A variety of spiritual practices including meditation, bodily awareness exercises and theological reflection are explored. CONTEMPLATIVE ATTITUDE groups focus on creative ways of relating to one's experience through imaginative, affective and body process. This work is rooted in the process described in Meister Eckart's Four Paths and in the Wisdom Tradition of Scripture. The class assists individuals in integrating self knowledge as they grow in a deeper sense of an authentic Self. DREAMWORK looks at dream stories as life metaphors. Lectures on the nature of dreaming, dreaming and spirituality, and several different approaches to dreamwork are presented. Techniques for facilitating others' dreams are presented. ENNEAGRAM considers the description and dynamics of various personality types according to the Sufi tradition. The Enneagram's influence in understanding the dynamics and issues involved in spiritual development and ministry is highlighted. INDIVIDUAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTION fosters the personal appropriation and integration of the ISL experience. Participants work with a trained spiritual director who companions them throughout the rich and delicate process of personal renewal and professional enrichment.  | | ||
